Réka Bucsi
Réka Bucsi is a Hungarian animation filmmaker. She graduated with a Master’s degree inanimation filmmaking from Moholy-Nagy University of Art and Design in Budapest. Her graduation film SYMPHONY NO. 42 was shortlisted for the Oscars in 2014 for Best Animated Short. Her personal films were screened at various film festivals all over the world, including three of them premiering at the Berlinale Shorts Competition (2014, 2016, 2018) and further playing in competition twice at Sundance (2015, 2016), Annecy, BFI London Film Festival and twice at SXSW (2016, 2018). Réka’s short film LOVE was nominated for Best Short Film at the European Film Awards in 2017.
Her film SOLAR WALK won the Audi Short Film Award at the Berlinale 2018, the Grand Prix at Ottawa International Animation Festival 2018, was nominated at the Annie Awards for Best Short Subject 2019 and is now part of The Criterion Channel. Réka became a European Film Academy member in 2017 and an AMPAS member in 2021.
She served on 18 international film festival juries, including the Berlinale Shorts International Jury 2020, Sarajevo Film Festival 2022, Shanghai International Film Festival 2024 and Annecy International Animation Film Festival in 2025, where they also screened a retrospective program of her work. GLAS Animation Festival, Animateka Festival and London International Animation Festival also screened retrospective programs of her work. She was a speaker at Pictoplasma both in Berlin and NYC, Pratt Institute NYC, The New School NYC, FMX Conference on Animation Germany and a guest teacher at California Institute of the Arts.
