Nuno Beato (Lisbon, 1977) is a director, screenwriter and producer. In 1998 he created the animation company Lampadacesa, where he directed his first short films Manos (2000) and Híssis (2003), among other advertising works. After this experience, he founded the production company Sardinha em Lata in 2007, developing his new productions ever since. The first work made in this company was the short film My Life in Your Hands (2009), with which it achieved nearly 100 selections at festivals around the world.
As producer of Sardinha em Lata, he made classic Portuguese animation titles such as Os olhos do farol (2010) by Pedro Serrazina, Viagem a Cabo Verde (2010) by José Miguel Ribeiro and O sapateiro (2012), the first short film by David Doutel and Vasco Sá. During these years he also directed the animated television series Ema & Gui (2010), shown in Portugal, Spain, Italy, Finland, South Korea and Argentina. In recent times, the company has contributed hits such as A menina parada (2021) by Joana Toste, The Monkey (2021) by Xosé Manuel Zapata and Lorenzo Degl’Innocenti or Degelo (2022) by newcomers Susana Miguel António and Filipa Gomes da Costa .
He has combined his creative side with teaching in various Portuguese institutions since 2002. He is currently a professor of animation at the Universidade Lusófona (Lisbon), as well as head of the design subject at ISEC Lisboa, the Instituto Superior de Educação e Ciências .
He has just completed his first animated feature film Os Demónios do Meu Avô (The Mud Demons, 2022), a Portuguese co-production with Galicia and France. This production had its world premiere at the Annecy Animation Festival, followed by new selections around the world. It was awarded the Grand Prize for best feature film at the Cinanima festival (Espinho), the Special Jury Prize at Monstra (Lisbon), in addition to achieving the nomination for best animation at the latest edition of the Goya Awards.

Rosa, a top-notch professional, highly valued in the business market, leads a demanding life dedicated entirely to her work. The death of his grandfather, from whom he had progressively distanced himself due to his inexhaustible work, ends up causing him a sudden attack of stress that calls into question his decisions. Rosa then decides to leave the city and sets out to search for the place and memories of her childhood, spent with her grandfather.
